Huh. He was here earlier than I had anticipated. I smiled under the mask as Angus walked me off the stage and toward the stairwell and Caroline followed. Once the door had closed behind us Angus patted me on the back and then Caroline swooped in and gave me a huge hug.
“You were fantastic!” Angus raved.
“Thanks so much for helping us out. Your story was great. I loved the Scooby-Doo ending too!” Caroline enthused.
“Thanks guys,” I said as I peeled off the mask and pulled my feet out of the Kodiak boots. “I grew up on Scooby-Doo so it was a natural fit for me.” I laughed. “So what happens now?”
“We basically have a rave in the dining hall for all the campers.”
“Oh that sounds delightful!” I said as I unbuttoned the plaid shirt, pulled it off and folded it. “Meanwhile I will be doing physicals on all the returning trippers, so you guys have fun, OK?”
“Thanks again!” The two echoed as they returned to the dining hall.
I finished pulling off my costume and was putting the clothes, the hockey mask and the hand cuffs back into the back pack when I heard the stairwell door open again. As I slipped my sandals on, I peeked around the corner to see who it was.
“So what exactly are you doing up here?” My husband asked looking very confused. “I thought you were being a nurse? Apparently you are honing your acting skills instead?” We both laughed.
“Yes! I am branching out. Playing the part of the evil nurse is just one small part of my job here. I, seriously, had no idea how challenging this nursing job was gonna be!” I smiled and ran to give him a big hug and a kiss.
“You smell sooooo good!” I said as I took a big whiff of his aftershave.
“You smell very….earthy.” He responded as he sniffed at the sleeve of my t-shirt.
It was so good to see him but I knew it was going to be a difficult task for him to adjust to camp life. His initiation was just beginning….
